● Various - ZARD vocalist Sakai Izumi passes away
ZARD vocalist Sakai Izumi passed away on May 27th, 2007, at 3:10pm. According to reports, she fell from the stairs in Keion University Hospital on the morning of the 26th, seriously injuring her hindbrain. However, after a day of treatment, she still left. She entered Keio University Hospital last June upon finding out that she has cervical cancer, and has been receiving treatment since. However, in April, it was found out that the cancer has moved to her lungs, delaying her stay in the hospital. She had planned to release a new album in the fall, along with her first live tour in three years, wanting to show her fans that she can fight her illnesses.
Since her debut sixteen years ago, she has released 42 singles, 11 albums, and four best albums. She debuted in 1991 with the single "Good-bye My Loneliness" and had her big break in 1993 with the song "Makenaide". She was 40 years old.
Her company thanks her fans for their long-years of support and hopes that she can live on forever in the hearts of the fans.
